Sometimes Cats Need A Little Help - What Groomers Can Do That Cats Can't
Cats are known as notoriously independent creatures, but sometimes they need a little help. One area that your cat may need your help with is everyday grooming and upkeep. Here are four things that a professional groomer can provide for your cat that they might not be able to do themselves.
1. Parasite Prevention
Especially in dry summers, indoor and outdoor cats can be susceptible to pests. If your cat sees a regular professional groomer, any fleas, ticks, or worms will be detected right away and can be treated immediately. Cat can hide ailments, and if they have fleas or other parasites you might not even be aware. Your groomer will be assessing your cat and may be more apt to catch pests that need to be taken care of.
2. Dealing With Matting and Snarls
Regular grooming can keep your cat's fur under control. If your cat has longer hair, it can be hard to keep up on brushing, and even harder for your cat to keep their fur clean and free from matting. Help your cat deal with the task of grooming which can lead to hairballs. Especially if you have an outdoor cat, burrs and thorns can embed in your cat's fur and may make their way to your cat's skin causing further problems.
3. Nail Clipping
If your cat is an indoor cat or isn't very active, they most likely will not be able to wear down their nails through climbing and scratching. Cats that aren't in the wild will most likely need help keeping their nails short through clipping. If your cat won't let you near their nails without a fight, taking them to a groomer might be a safer option for both you and your cat. Groomers have techniques and restraining devices that can make this process more efficient.
4. Skin Problems and Rashes
Groomers will be physically assessing your cat and if they see anything amiss, they can let you know. You can then get your cat to the vet for a diagnosis. Sometimes as an owner you might not notice gradual changes over time with your cat. If a groomer sees your cat monthly or bi-monthly, changes with their skin or irritations that pop up will be caught right away.
Even if trips to the groomers isn't your cat's favorite thing to do, this doesn't mean that they won't feel better after a visit. There are always going to be specific grooming aspects that your cat might need a little help with. Getting a few choice procedures done at the groomers can keep your cat happy and healthy for years to come.
